We did a normal day at work and left at almost the normal time. Got the plane from Graz to Frankfurt. After a 3-hour wait in Frankfurt the trip continued to Johannesburg (non-stop on a 747-400, about full).

On the map above you can see where our tour took us (the red blotches). Between JHB and George we flew, but the rest was all by car.

The highlights of the trip were planned to be the Eastern Mpumalanga (Transvaal) and the Kruger National Park,  ...

... the Garden Route around George and then ...

... Cape town to round off the trip.

We arrived in Johannesburg (JHB) International Airport (formerly Jan Smuts Airport) at 8.50. Had no problems, except that Rene (my brother) was a bit late. He took us home, got us settled in (which made him late for his next appointment ) and we had a bit of a sleep. Hed rebuilt quite a lot since I was last there so I had to inspect it all. Hed built on another room and bathroom, wine cellar, introduced some flowerbeds, put in a swimming pool, some Matopas (as in old Rhodesia) landscaping and made a lot of improvements to the old place.
